Nandita Das’ ‘Manto’ entered the coveted Cannes Film Festival this year after a lot of hardships and gained immense popularity among the audience there. As per reports, the audience who watched the film at the French Riviera was astounded by the story of the famous poet and Nawazuddin Siddiqui acting.
While speaking to a daily, Nawazuddin siddiqui revealed how it was hugely gratifying to see the audience responding in such a positive way. Hours after the screening of his film based on the life of an author, Saadat Hasan Manto, Nawaz revealed how people had tears in their eyes.
He further confessed that he could see that he had done well by the way people were responding to his performance. Praising his director, Nandita Das, he said that with ‘Manto’, she has created a fantastic film. The versatile actor further added how actors, usually do their bit and walk off, but it’s the director like Nandita, who has woven a wonderful tapestry, interspersing Manto’s works with his personal journey.
Earlier in the year 2012, Nawazuddin Siddiqui ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ had made a mark at the Cannes Film Festival and this year ‘Manto’ was selected in the Un Certain Regard segment.
